My view on Legalization of Marijuana

...is really a matter of location.

For example, I am against the legalization of marijuana in the US. I think it's because I would not want the person whose mandate is to rule the world to be elected by stoned voters. Imagine getting stoned on election day, who would you vote for? It would probably be the candidate with the nicest haircut or the largest head.. or the candidate who looks like a nutella-spread toast with strawberry strips.. or canned me7shi malfouf with laban... (yummm) And seriously, american voters are already too blinded by consumption and watching TV to be worried about real issues; adding dopamine to the equation would just be the end of democratic change*. On the other hand, in terms of legalizing marijuana cultivation, doing so in the US would definitely result in the advent of a genetically-modified species of tasteless bug-resistant male-female cannabis plant that would economically wipe out all diversity in the field (sic).

Luckily in lebanon we don't have these problems. Not because our weed is of lesser quality (quite the contrary). But because, anyway, our votes barely count and the elected officials rarely make any difference, if at all. Also, legalizing marijuana cultivation would finally be daring a realistic solution to the lingering crisis in the primary sector, generating (highly needed) millions of dollars in tax revenues, and establishing the most efficient way to rid the bekaa plain of occasional violence and para-military and para-resistance weapons. It would also spare us the occasional sprawl of badly written articles making the boring afp-nytimes-tayyar.org circuit.

I guess the whole point of this argument is that: when i shout "Legalize it", please read the fine print.

* We, here at libanismes, strongly believe that maintaining a healthy democracy requires directing enough amounts of anger towards the right cause.

Well I disagree on the US point. We have seen what people vote for sober, so when you think about it, weed can't really make it any worse right?
I say:

Give me the ganja cookie, and the herbal tea.
Sensimelia is: Irie!
I don't care what no government say.
Sensimelia is: OK!

Legalize it! Yes man legalize it now!

phil, I also disagree on the US point, but for different reasons:
stoned voters will surely vote for the guy that is the least likely to go to war... they will vote for the pacifist...

love is all around!

Chris Rock in one of his stand up comedy shows said:
if marijuana was cultivated by white ppl, it would have been legal a long time ago, but god forbid some brown people get rich...

and it is somehow true. they have been trying to pass a bill to legalize marijuana in canada for a long while now. so far it is only decriminalized, but that's alright!!!

love the part dealing with lebanon though. so true.

they will vote for the pacifist, and they will dip their heads in a nutella jar to celebrate their decision.

ppl under the influence are "more aware" than sober ppl.

I never said they will vote for the pacifist. It's just that they have come to a point now that stoned or not, they can pick a bum of the street and he would be better than now!
